DENTON, Texas – The American Society of Cinematographers will offer a workshop taught by Rexford Metz, ASC on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the 61st Annual University Film & Video Association (UFVA) Conference at University of North Texas.

Metz is currently on the faculty at Florida State University. He is best known in the film industry as an expert in "special photography," and has created memorable visuals through his underwater photography in Jaws, his aerial photography in Courage Under Fire, and his visual-effects photography in Total Recall and Tron. His documentary The Spirit of America was nominated for an Academy Award.

His workshop "Teaching Cinematography in Three Parts" will be an overview focusing on technology, craft and telling the story through cinematography. This workshop will touch upon such subjects as exposure, camera movement, filters, dollies and cranes, digital color timing, as well as other techniques for creating the "tone" of the story.

In addition to the ASC workshop, American Cinematographer will have a table in the exhibition area with the latest publications from the ASC Press, as well as, products and information from Bogen Imaging, Frame Forge, J.L. Fisher and Kish Optics.
