NAB Show 2012 Online Preview

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference, held annually in Las Vegas, Nev., attracts more than 90,000 media and entertainment professionals from more than 150 countries.

The show is a main stage for the 1,500-plus exhibiting companies to showcase technological advancements that impact a variety of audio-visual workflows through every phase of production, from prep through post. AC will be on hand during the run of the show, April 16-19, to look at a host of new releases as they take their place in the spotlight. (Come say hello at the American Cinematographer booth, C 11248.) Before the Convention Center’s doors even open, here’s a snapshot of what to look forward to.

In addition to the main show floor, the NAB Show also offers a series of illuminating, educational sessions. New digital techniques are transforming the art and craft of filmmaking, opening doors to new forms of storytelling, upending historical ways of doing things and altering how department heads collaborate. Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Cinematographers, Art Directors and Visual Effects Branches will look at the benefits and challenges of creating motion pictures with new digital technologies. With “postproduction” increasingly moving on set, shooting digitally requires designing a workflow and selecting a color-management system that is appropriate for the project.
