Michael Weaver, ASC has been with this hit show since its first season in 2007, and last year he won an ASC Award for his work on the series, which follows the escapades of novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny), whose personal and professional lives are on the brink of self destruction, and who has yet to meet a temptation he can resist. The series has been captured with a variety of digital camera systems, including Sony's F23 and F35, Panavision's Genesis, and Arri's Alexa. Weaver offers an inside view on what he's been up to on the latest season.

Phil Spector (HBO)
Juan Ruiz-Anchia, ASC reteamed with writer/director David Mamet for this telefilm that examines the life of music-industry legend Phil Spector (Al Pacino) as he stood trial for murder. Pacino is joined onscreen by Helen Mirren, who plays Spector's defense attorney, Linda Kenney Baden. Ruiz-Anchia and Mamet had previously collaborated on the feature Spartan, and the cinematographer also photographed James Foley's Glengarry Glen Ross, which was written by Mamet and starred Pacino. For Spector, Ruiz-Anchia and Mamet opted to shoot digitally with the Arri Alexa.

Chicago Fire (NBC)
Lisa Wiegand is behind the camera to capture the triumphs and tragedies of the firefighters and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51. Shot on location in Chicago, the series explores the on- and off-the-clock lives of Battalion Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker); firefighters Lt. Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) and Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg); paramedics Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Leslie Shay (Lauren German); and the Rescue Squad's Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinnney). Wiegand details her approach to the high-octane, ensemble series.

ASC Career Achievement in Television Award
Rodney Charters, ASC, CSC steps into the spotlight to receive this prestigious award during the 27th Annual ASC Awards ceremony in Hollywood. A native of New Zealand and graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Charters began his career in documentaries, and spent 15 years traveling the globe. After segueing into the narrative world, he was nominated for a Gemini Award for his work on the telefilm TekWar, and he earned two Emmy nominations for his work on the series 24. Charters' other series credits include Nash Bridges, The Commish, The Pretender, Roswell, Shameless and Nashville. In addition to shooting, Charters is a member of the Directors Guild of America.

ASC Presidents Award
Curtis Clark, ASC was also saluted during the Society's awards ceremony for his significant contributions to the industry. Clark's feature credits include The Draughtsman's Contract, Dominick and Eugene, Alamo Bay, Extremities and Triumph of the Spirit, and he has notched hundreds of commercial credits with cutting-edge directors and ad agencies. Under Clark's leadership, the ASC Technology Committee has become an important industry forum that has achieved a series of notable successes, including its collaborative work with the Digital Cinema Initiatives and the development of the ASC CDL, which was recognized with a 2012 Primetime Emmy Engineering Award.

  • Short Takes gets down with the music video for Die Antwoord's "I Fink U Freeky"; directed by Roger Ballen and shot by Melle Van Essen, the project won the Best Music Video award at the recent Plus-Camerimage International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography.
  • Production Slate looks at cinematographer Adam Arkapaw's work on director Cate Shortland's Lore, which was Australia's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
  • ASC Close-Up spotlights Society member Christopher Baffa, whose credits include the features Suicide Kings, Next Friday, Running with Scissors and Unaccompanied Minors, and the series Nip/Tuck and Glee.
